But building companies in this environment has become intensely challenging.  Investors have erected thresholds for minimum investment, which means that they require a company to be far advanced in their development in order to merit an investment.  Also, once invested, investors have less time to spend with their portfolio companies, since they are directors of ten boards while trying to make new investments.  At the same time, management teams face greater risks, in that they are compelled to manage their company’s entire development path with fewer resources than ever.  And, in the end, there is always the expectation that the Company should succeed despite all these impediments and risks…
