John T. Casey



John T. Casey has over thirty years of experience in the health care services industry, the majority of that time having been spent in senior management level positions of both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations. Mr. Casey retired in 1999 serving as Chairman and CEO of Physician Reliance Network, Inc., since 1997. PRN was the largest oncology practice management company in the U.S., with over 115 practice locations, 325 physician partners, and 20 comprehensive outpatient cancer treatment facilities. The company was successfully merged in mid-1999 with its' largest competitor, American Oncology Resources, to create a new entity of approximately double its' size, US Oncology. Prior to PRN, Mr. Casey served as President and Chief Operating Officer of American Medical International (1991-1995); at that time the third largest publicly held owner and operator of hospitals in the country. He was responsible for the operation of the company's forty (40) hospitals across the country, focusing on profitability, operating performance and quality of care. In addition, as a member of the company board of directors and a key member of senior management, he was integrally involved in the successfully merger with National Medical Enterprises to create Tenet Healthcare Corporation, where Casey served as Vice-Chairman. Mr. Casey was the Chief Executive Officer of Intecare, LLC, from 1995-1997, a company formed for the purpose of developing joint venture partnerships with high quality hospitals and integrated healthcare systems. Equity partners included Chase Capital Partners and VHA. Since 1976, he was held Chief Executive positions with some of the largest and most respected healthcare systems in the country – PSL Healthcare Corporation (Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center) in Denver, 1976-1985; Methodist Health Systems, Memphis, 1985-1990; and, Samaritan Health System, Phoenix, 1990-1991. John received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Auburn University (1967), and his Master's degree in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Alabama-Birmingham (1972) . Mr. Casey has served on numerous boards of companies and organizations serving the healthcare field. He currently serves as a director of MedQuist, Inc., US Oncology, Inc., and MedCath, Inc. He also serves as a member of the advisory board to MedAssets.com. John has received numerous honors and recognition for his professional and civic work, including the prestigious Robert S. Hudgens award as the National Young Healthcare Executive of the Year in 1981 from the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the UAB Graduate Program in Health Administration in both 1982 and 1996. John is a frequent speaker at a variety of governmental, business and healthcare industry meetings and events.
