Liver Disease Platform
During the past 25 years, medical advancements in the treatment of organ disease have been monumental. In fact, innovations in treating heart disease, renal failure, and brain function have contributed significantly to the economic, social, and cultural well-being of aging populations around the world. However, whereas liver disease has become the eighth leading cause of death among adults in the US and Europe, advancements in the treatment of liver disease have been slow to be developed and adopted. Moreover, due to notable clinical failures, the patience of investors has been tried, and the appetite of strategic parties to absorb financial, clinical, and operating risk is minimal. The 1990's saw the development of a series of robust therapies and procedures for the treatment of liver disease in conjunction with leading thought leaders and institutions. While the companies that owned these innovations had not achieved broad-based commercial adoption, favorable circumstances existed that would permit the universe of strategic and financial investors to champion the industry's emergence. As a result of these circumstances Healthios outlined the organization, strategic, and financial frameworks for the development of a new industry based upon the clinical innovation of emerging companies, the sponsorship of top-tier institutional investors, and the strategic leadership of global competitors. While designing these frameworks, Healthios performed comprehensive analysis of: scientific & clinical estates; portfolio interests of financial investors; and strategic interests of global pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and device companies. We established a detailed "Predictive Market Matrix", which set forth the likelihood of a series of Threshold Events (e.g. clinical/regulatory milestones, capital investment flows, licensing events, strategic partnerships, acquisitions) that would alter the risk-return relationship for industry participants. Healthios later engaged with management, investors, and strategic parties to promote the realization of these Threshold Events.
