Siemens AG and Bilfinger Berger AG
Siemens AG and Bilfinger Berger AG were awarded a €250 million ($395.5 million) contract for the construction and operation of a particle therapy centre in Kiel, northern Germany. The contract spans a period of 25 years. For the purpose of the project, Siemens Project Ventures and Bilfinger Berger Project Investments set up a company, which will be refinanced via an international group of banks. Each of the partners will contribute 50% of the required equity capital. The particle therapy centre will have a capacity for treatment of some 3,000 patients annually from northern Germany, as well from the southern Scandinavian region. It is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2012. The oncology treatment centre will also comprise a department for conventional radiation therapy, which is to open in early 2011. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will provide planning and installation for the centre. Bilfinger Berger will be responsible for the construction.
