BioScrip, Inc. provides specialty pharmaceutical and pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services in the United States. It operates through two segments, Specialty Services, and PBM Services. The Specialty Services segment provides support, management, dispensing, distribution, and data reporting for medications used to treat patients with chronic health conditions. Its services include the distribution of biotech and other injectable, oral, and infusable prescription medications, and the provision of therapy management services. This segment offers local distribution through community pharmacies; specialty mail distribution through contracts with health plans and manufacturers; and infusion services through infusion pharmacies. The Specialty Services segment serves patients with chronic health conditions, including cancer, Crohn’s disease, hemophilia, hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, immune deficiency, multiple sclerosis, organ transplant, and rheumatoid arthritis. It also provides its services to physicians, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and payors. The PBM Services segment provides pharmacy network management, claims processing, benefit design, drug utilization review, formulary management, and traditional mail order pharmacy fulfillment services. Its services include formulary and benefit design, clinical services, drug usage evaluation, pharmacy data services, disease management, pharmacy dispensing facility, and discount prescription card programs. This segment offers services through a network of retail pharmacies and traditional mail service distribution facilities. It also administers cash card or discount card programs on behalf of program sponsors to third party administrators. As of December 31, 2006, BioScrip operated 37 pharmacies, including community, mail, and infusion pharmacies in the United States. The company was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
