Vulcan Capital is the investment arm of Vulcan Inc. specializing in private equity and venture capital investments. In private equity investments, the firm invests in leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, and distressed situations. It seeks to invest in public and private companies, family-controlled enterprises, and corporate divestitures across a range of securities including senior debt, mezzanine, and preferred and common equity. The firm primarily invests in business services, healthcare, consumer products, manufacturing, distribution and logistics, media, energy and natural resources, technology, financial services, insurance, and telecom sectors. It prefers to invest between $50 million to $200 million per transaction and selectively considers larger or smaller transactions. In venture capital investments, the firm seeks to invest in early stage opportunities within the software, semiconductor, life sciences, and communications sectors. It does not invest in film production companies, amusement parks or restaurants, music acts, record companies, or recording studios. The firm makes either through control ownership or strategic minority investments. It is not limited by asset class parameters or holding periods. Vulcan Capital was founded by Mr. Paul G. Allen in 1986 and is based in Seattle, Washington.
