#1  Hewlett-Packard Co. announced nearly 3,400 job cuts in Britain following its takeover of rival firm EDS. The takeover will result in 24,600 jobs worldwide, some 3,378 of which will be in Britain.

#2  Hewlett-Packard Co. announced plans to build a manufacturing plant in southwestern China to make notebook and desktop personal computers for the Chinese market.
 
#3  Hewlett-Packard Co. will be expanding its skilled workforce base in Malaysia with the setting up of its Cyberjaya campus. The 63-acre HP campus is expected to create 4,000 job opportunities for knowledge workers over the next 10 years, and this includes 1,000 software engineers for the company's internal global application development centre, 1,000 business analysts for the internal global support centre, and 2,000 more for the enterprise call centre.
 
#4  Hewlett-Packard Co. announced it is to axe 133 jobs in Ireland over two years. The company plans to cut almost 25,000 jobs across its global operation, including 9,500 in Europe, after it bought out business services outsourcing company EDS.
 
#5  Hewlett-Packard Co. announced that it is planning to axe 480 jobs in France. The job cuts will affect the employees of recently acquired IT services provider EDS and will take place within a restructuring programme, announced in September, concerning 24,600 lay-offs worldwide. In Europe, the group will reduce its workforce by 9,330, with 90% of the job cuts affecting EDS staff.
